Alexios G Spanides was born in Athens in 1955. He attended the Anavryta High School and graduated in 1974. He studied piano and Music Theory with Professor Nadia Vithynou.
After graduating he went to London, completed his A Level studies and was accepted by the University of Kent at Canterbury, where he studied Philosophy and Sociology and graduated with a B.A Hons. He pursued his studies in Philosophy with an M.A on Aristotle’s “Poetics” and continued onto a PhD on Aristotle and Greek Tragedy.
When he returned to Greece, and after his Military Service, he worked for Radio 3 and the Athens Municipal Radio.
In 1993 he became Artistic Advisor of the Minister of Tourism regarding the Athens Festival and a member of the Artistic Committee of the Festival, as well as an Honorary Member of the Nafplion Festival and the Athens Chamber Opera.
He then worked for more than seven years at the Greek National Opera, while in 2000 he became a Critic for the “”Vradyni” Athens Journal.
He is now active as a freelance music critic.
